MH2 Time!

Modern Horizons 2 has officially released on MTGO, and that means it's time for content.

The first thing I wanted to do was update my pet deck, Steel Stompy, with some sweet cards from MH2. Spoiler alert: the new cards are pretty damn good.

Thought Monitor

Thought Monitor is a Thoughtcast for 2 extra generic mana, but for that cost, you get a 2/2 Flying Construct. That means it can be pumped with Steel Overseer, Arcbound Ravager, or just used to block a Delver of Secrets while preventing you from running out of cards. There's no debate that the text of the card is good. The real question is whether 6U (with affinity for artifacts) ends up falling on the "too expensive" side of things, and that's something we're finding out in this league!

Urza's Saga

Haha, I get it. It's a Saga with the Urza's supertype. I paid a few too many tickets to get access to these on Day 1! The idea here is that it's a land that can make two "Karnstructs" (power and toughness equal to the number of artifacts I control), as well as grab a Mox Opal when it dies, at the bare minimum. I've also included a Mishra's Bauble and Pithing Needle as tutor targets.

Mishra's Bauble means that we can convert the land into an extra card, and recur it freely with Emry, Lurker of the Loch. Pithing Needle, while already having its normal breadth of applications, gains an extra little bit of power. While tutoring with Urza's Saga, once you decide what you're getting, it's on the battlefield. There's no time for your opponent to react once they know you're getting the needle. That means that if they don't crack all of their fetch lands in response to Chapter III, you can just grab the needle, name a fetch land, and there's not much they can do about it.

The Video

Enjoy!
